New York, NY -- (ReleaseWire) -- 07/24/2017 -- Cherrystone Auctions, a worldwide stamp industry leader and host of several public stamp auctions per year, has published the results of its recent late-June auction to its website, which is listed below. Following a period of remote pre-auction bidding, the recent auction was held on June 13th and 14th at Cherrystone's New York City location.

The highest price realized for a single lot at Cherrystone's recent auction was a price of $26,000. The top-selling lot consisted of only a single stamp: a Russian stamp issued in the year 1902. The early 20th century Russian stamp, printed with red violet ink was described by Cherrystone as having "vertically laid paper, groundwork inverted, lightly cancelled, well centered with nice margins, fresh color, one slightly shorter per. at top, still very fine." Beyond the physical description of its look and condition, Cherrystone's description of the valuable stamp also included a note about its rarity relative to its past collectors and scarcity. "This is a great rarity, ex-Ferrary, Rothschild and Goss collections, possibly one of only two existing," writes Cherrystone. The full description, along with a high-quality image of the stamp, is available online—not only for the $26,000 lot but also for each lot sold at the recent June auction.

Another of the highest prices realized at Cherrystone's recent auction was $11,000, this time for a set of two stamps. The over-$10,000 stamps were issued in 1941 in the Eastern European country of Montenegro. An interesting fact about that stamps that contributed to the high value of the lot is that they were issued when Montenegro was under Italian occupation during World War II. As seen in an image on Cherrystone's website, the Montenegrin stamps were printed using blue ink and depict a city with a plane flying overhead.

Nearly 1,500 lots were auctioned off by Cherrystone at its June auction. Hundreds realized prices of over $1,000, but many others sold for under $300.00. Currently, the auction house is in the process of auctioning off the famous Beville Collection, which consists of stamps from all over the world issued in the century between 1840 and 1940.
